The VIC boats of WW2 were a variant on the Clyde Puffer which had plied their trade round Scotland's coast for years. The puffer came to TV fame in the series "Para Handy" based on the novels by Neil Munro.


This swingbridge is unusual in that it is spilt in the middle, swinging to both sides. Until recently, the bridge-keeper had to row across to open the second half - he now has a small motorboat.

This steam hauled tourist train is headed out from Fort William to Mallaig. The railway crosses the canal on a swingbridge.
